St Columb's College Derry overcame their rivals St Joseph's Derry in a thrilling game at the Ballymena Showgrounds on finals day to win the Malcolm Brodie cup. The Buncrana road school found themselves a goal down in the early stages of the showpiece when Emmett McGilloway found the back of the net for St Joseph's Boys School. However, St Columb's fought back in the second half through Jack LcLaughlin's close range volley before Conor O'Donnell scored a header from a corner. The college threatened to go further ahead but St Joseph's keeper, Oisin Burke saved from a penalty to keep the creggan men in the game. In injury time a magnificent solo effort from Aaron McGurk who won the ball at the halfway line and carried it the whole way before slotting past the goalkeeper to secure a superb win for St Columb's and the completion of their second successive N.Ireland cup double following the minor teams win earlier in the morning.
