U16s Face Finland

Release Date: 02/09/2014

The Northern Ireland Under 16 team will play two games against Finland. The teams meet at Comber on Wednesday 10 September, kick off 5.00 pm, and two days later Knockbreda FC is the venue, kick off 11.30 am.

Northern Ireland Manager Stephen Robinson is looking forward to his young side taking on top class opponents.  “Games against Finland have always been very close at this level.  This is just the start of an extensive programme of international matches for the boys.  Directly after the games against Finland the team travels to Poland for two games.  It will be a good experience for our boys to pit their skills against the best Continental teams.  This is just the sort of test that we need before embarking on the Victory Shield campaign against Scotland in October.  These games will give everyone a chance to stake a claim for their place in the squad for the games in the Sky Sports Victory Shield”.

The Northern Ireland Schools’ Football Association is offering free entrance to any school or youth group wishing to attend the games against Finland.

Any group wishing to gain free entrance should send their details by email to Edwin Ferris, NISFA Treasurer, at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to obtain a group permit.

Irish FA Nutty Krust Halloween Holiday Camps

More than 1000 kids are set to take part in Nutty Krust football camps during this year’s Halloween break.

The popular two-day camps give boys and girls aged 5-13 the chance to develop their football skills while exercising, having fun and making new friends.

Run by the Irish Football Association in partnership with Portadown-based Irwin’s Bakery, they will be staged at 28 venues across Northern Ireland between 27th and 30th October.

And for the first time this Halloween there will be a camp aimed specifically at young people with physical and learning disabilities.

Open to players aged 7 to 17, it is being staged at Loughside Recreation Centre in Belfast on 29th and 30th October.

Colette Wilson, marketing manager for programme sponsors Irwin’s Bakery, said:

“It’s great to see the holiday camps initiative going from strength to strength. We are particularly delighted that young people with physical and learning disabilities will be given the opportunity to enjoy a camp this Halloween.

“We’ve been supporting the Irish FA’s grassroots football development programme for more than nine years now and 2015 has been the biggest year yet.”

At all of the camps Irish FA coaches give kids tips on dribbling, passing and shooting, as well as encouragement to continue into a more competitive playing environment.

And all the young players leave with a Nutty Krust goodie bag and an Adidas football.

Back in the summer around 3400 kids, including more than 200 girls, enjoyed camps at 60 venues.

A first ever visit to Cushendall was among those camps – and it was so successful that the Co Antrim seaside town is hosting another camp next month.
